Kiefer Ravena is set to take over the spot vacated by Jayson Castro after the many-time national team member decided to focus more on his growing family and give an upcoming player a chance to serve flag and country.
This development was bared by Gilas Pilipas Men’s team head coach Yeng Guiao after the match between NLEX and Brgy. Ginebra at the Batangas City Coliseum.
“It’s almost a done deal for Jayson’s slot,” said Guiao. “Sa akin kasi, as of now, he is the most logical choice to fill out the spot of Jayson.”
Ravena is currently serving his 18-month suspension which will lapse on August 24 but is already allowed to practice under FIBA rules during “the last two months of ineligibility or the last one-quarter of period of ineligibility imposed.”
The 25-year old son of former PBA player and current TNT head coach Bong Ravena was suspended last February 2018 for testing positive for using performance-enhancing drugs which are banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Ravena is expected to attend the national team’s practice on Monday, June 24 and that of NLEX the following day.
