Christian Standhardinger seals three-year deal with Brgy. Ginebra

Christian Standhardinger isn’t going anywhere, at least for the next three years.

The 32-year old Fil-German, who was rumored to be moving over to the Japan B.League once his contract expires, came to terms with Brgy. Ginebra and will play for the Gin Kings until 2025.

Team management has yet to confirm the development but sources claimed that the two parties have already sealed a deal during the indefinite break.

When asked about the new deal of the former Gilas Pilipinas big man, head coach Tim Cone admitted that he is not privy to the contract talks between management and player.

“I’m just hearing it from the horse’s mouth. I didn’t do it. I heard from management that they’re negotiating for a three-year deal, but I don’t know the details,” said the 64-year-old American mentor.

“I don’t even know if he’s actually signed it yet. I don’t get involve in contracts, but I certainly hope he did,” he added.

Standhardinger, who was acquired by the crowd darlings for Greg Slaughter via one-for-one trade with NorthPort early last year, struggled during his first conference with Brgy. Ginebra and it showed as the Gin Kings failed to defend their All-Filipino crown.

In the ongoing 2021 Governors’ Cup, the top overall pick of the 2017 draft submitted 4-game averages of 14.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. He scattered a season-high 30 points during the team’s emphatic 125-121 overtime win over Phoenix Super LPG.

“He’s really a unique player for this import conferences. He could battle these big guys and not be afraid of them. He’s a unique talent for our league in terms of the defensive and rebounding side,” said Cone.

“We don’t have guys like him who would take on that battle every night against the imports and not shy away from it,” added the league’s winningest bench tactician.
