Clippers send James Harden to Cavaliers, land Darius Garland

The NBA trade deadline frenzy has officially kicked off, igniting a whirlwind of activity across the league.

In a significant move, James Harden has been traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Darius Garland and a second-round pick, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Harden will now join forces with the explosive Donovan Mitchell, who is currently leading the Cavaliers, who boast a solid 30-21 win-loss record. This places Cleveland fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Garland, the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, is set to take on the role of lead guard for the Clippers, teaming up with stars Kawhi Leonard, Ivica Zubac, and John Collins.

The Clippers are eager to ascend the standings, currently positioned ninth in the Western Conference with a 23-26 record.

Earlier this week, the Cavaliers also made headlines by acquiring Keon Ellis, Dennis Schroder, and Emanuel Miller while sending De’Andre Hunter to Sacramento, all in an effort to strengthen their playoff aspirations.

Meanwhile, another Eastern Conference contender, the Boston Celtics, enhanced their roster by trading for Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic in exchange for Anfernee Simons, as reported by Charania.

Additionally, the two franchises will swap second-round picks as part of the deal.

The Memphis Grizzlies appear to be embracing a rebuilding phase, having traded away forward Jaren Jackson Jr., along with John Konchar, Jock Landale, and Vince Williams to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang, and three future first-round picks.

In a separate transaction, veteran guard Mike Conley Jr. and promising playmaker Jaden Ivey are headed to Chicago after being traded from Detroit and Minnesota, respectively.

In this deal, the Pistons will gain Kevin Huerter and Dario Saric, along with a protected 2026 first-round swap from the Timberwolves.
