Gilas takes down Jordan in final tune-up game before FIBA Asia Cup

Gilas Pilipinas secured a solid victory over Jordan, triumphing 75-61 on Saturday in a closed-door tune-up game ahead of their campaign in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The match, characterized by its low scoring, saw Gilas Pilipinas establish a 40-29 lead at halftime, ultimately paving the way for their win against Jordan, which is also preparing for the FIBA Asia Cup.

This contest marked Gilas’ second and final warm-up game before they kick off their Asia Cup journey with a matchup against Chinese Taipei on Wednesday.

The scoring dynamics in this tune-up clash starkly contrasted with their previous outing, where Gilas Pilipinas outlasted the Macau Black Bears in a high-scoring affair, 103-98, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on July 28, which welcomed fans.

As the third quarter concluded, Gilas maintained a 55-47 advantage, preserving their lead by outpacing Jordan 20-14 in the final period.

According to a report from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Facebook page, Calvin Oftana emerged as a standout, sinking critical three-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Despite concerns over his health stemming from injuries sustained to both ankles during the recent PBA Philippine Cup playoffs and finals, Oftana made the journey to Jeddah.

In addition, Kevin Quiambao, Dwight Ramos, and Scottie Thompson contributed to the scoring surge in the final period, knocking down crucial threes, as noted by the SBP.
