Mark Caguioa on the brink of retirement due to spate of injuries

Mark Caguioa is now on the brink of retirement as injuries continue to hound the Brgy. Ginebra legend.

According to Gin Kings head coach, the 42-year old former league MVP is pondering on his future as he remains unavailable due to an injury which hasn’t completely healed despite the already extended break brought about by the sudden surge of COVID-19 infections following the holidays.

“Mark has been bothered by a calf strain and he is contemplating hanging it up because he can’t get healthy,” said Cone after the team’s game against Meralco last Sunday.

The 3rd overall pick of the 2001 PBA rookie draft last saw action during Game 2 of the Governors’ Cup semifinals series against the Bolts on November 20, 2020. He managed to contribute 2 points, 4 boards and an assist in 8 minutes of play.

He has since been in and out of the roster for the past few conferences due to an assortment of injuries.

“We are missing him as well,” said Cone on Caguioa who’s currently on the injured list along with Stanley Pringle, Jared Dillinger, Aljon Mariano, Sidney Onwubere and Joe Devance.

Gin Kings management had earlier stated that Caguiao can play for the team as long as wants, and the decision to retire rests solely upon himself.
