McCullough powers Strong Group-Pilipinas over Ukraine to remain unbeaten in Jones Cup

Strong Group-Pilipinas extended their winning streak in the 43rd William Jones Cup with a hard-fought victory over Ukraine, securing an 82-74 win in their Monday night showdown in Taiwan.

Former San Miguel import Chris McCullough showcased his exceptional skills once again, leading the SGA team with 28 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a crucial block in over 35 minutes of intense gameplay.

Jordan Heading also made a significant impact with 24 points, including four three-pointers, along with three rebounds and three steals.

Kiefer Ravena demonstrated his leadership on the court with 10 points, four assists, and a steal, while Ange Kouame and Tajuan Agee contributed nine and seven points, respectively.

Despite a strong start by the Ukrainians led by Anatoliy Shundel’s 17 points, the Philippines managed to rally back and regain control in the final quarter. Rostyslav Novitskyi added 12 points and eight rebounds for Ukraine, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the resilient SGA team.

Trailing by six after the first quarter, Ukraine fought back to take the lead going into the final period. However, McCollough’s clutch plays in the closing minutes, including an and-one and a crucial three-pointer assisted by Ravena, sealed the victory for the Philippines.

With Heading, Ravena, and McCollough stepping up in the crucial moments and converting key free throws down the stretch, the Charles Tiu-led team secured their third consecutive win in the tournament and maintained their position at the top of the standings.
