Ginebra vs Phoenix

Magnolia seeks to channel its frustrations into a commanding performance as it faces a struggling Blackwater team this Friday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Hotshots are determined to rebound from a gut-wrenching defeat in their last outing, hoping to improve their record to 5-2 and secure a coveted spot among the top four teams. Those top four slots come with a critical twice-to-beat advantage in the upcoming eight-team quarterfinals, following the 11-game eliminations.
Conversely, the Bossing are desperate to end a five-game losing streak that has left them languishing at 1-5, inching closer to missing the playoffs for an eighth consecutive season.
A victory would not only keep Blackwater’s playoff hopes alive but also provide a much-needed boost as they look to accumulate more wins in their remaining games.
Coach Jeffrey Cariaso emphasized his team’s focus on consistent improvement. “We simply need to elevate our game with each outing, collaborate as a unit, and trust in the process,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Magnolia’s motivation has intensified following a narrow 92-94 loss to San Miguel Beer on November 7, where the Hotshots displayed resilience by clawing back from an 18-point deficit, only to squander a six-point lead in the final crucial moments.
Although Coach LA Tenorio and his squad aimed to quickly bounce back, their scheduled game against TNT last Sunday was postponed due to the looming threat of Super Typhoon Uwan.
The unforeseen break has undoubtedly left Magnolia eager to hit the court, with key players like Jerom Lastimosa, Zavier Lucero, Ian Sangalang, and Mark Barroca impatiently awaiting the opportunity to lead the Hotshots back on track.
The performance of Blackwater’s key players – Sedrick Barefield, Christian David, and Dalph Panopio – will be closely scrutinized as they face Magnolia’s formidable defense.
Barefield recently delivered an impressive 33-point performance, while Christian David snapped out of a scoring slump with 18 points and Panopio contributed significantly with 11 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
However, these contributions were ultimately overshadowed by their inability to manage Converge’s Alec Stockton and the dynamic frontline duo of Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar, leading to a disappointing 94-99 loss last Saturday.
