Gilas Pilipinas Youth brought down Chinese Taipei, 84-73, to remain undefeated in the 2022 FIBA U18 Asian Championship, Tuesday at the Azadi Basketball Hall in Tehran, Iran.

Mason Amos dropped 28 points, 13 in the pivotal payoff period, as the Josh Reyes-mentored squad completed a sweep of Group C, 3-0, to advance to the quarterfinal round where they’ll take on Group A tailender Lebanon.

The Fil-Australian big man, who is averaging 24.3 points in the tournament, capped off his game-long brilliance with a shot clock-beating triple to give the Filipinos a comfortable 11-point edge, 79-68, with just 2:05 left in the game clock.

James Nacua also had a significant performance as the 17-year old from San Beda University scored 16 all from beyond the arc. Joshua Coronel and Seven Gagate chipped in 9 markers apiece.

Fresh from a 77-61 win over Qatar on Monday, the Filipinos carried the momentum over and established a double-digit advantage, 28-18, after one.

It was a difference story, however, in the second half as the Taiwanese picked up the paced and built their own double-digit lead, 57-47, halfway into the third frame.

The Pinoy boys, however, refused to buckle down and staged a furious fightback in the final canto to pull off their 3rd straight victory and clinch a ticket into the next phase.
