TNT not rushing RR Pogoy’s return from injury

The TNT Tropang 5G are poised to seek redemption against the formidable San Miguel Beermen in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup Finals. However, head coach Chot Reyes remains vigilant as the team navigates the challenges posed by RR Pogoy’s hamstring injury. The seasoned sharpshooter aggravated the issue during TNT’s semifinal series triumph over the Meralco Bolts, playing only one minute in Game 4 and sitting out Game 5 entirely.

With nearly a week of rest before the best-of-seven Finals commence, Reyes emphasized the importance of not jeopardizing Pogoy’s health further.

“Pulled hamstrings can be quite unpredictable,” Reyes remarked following TNT’s narrow 99-96 victory over Meralco last Wednesday. “It’s not just about the muscle healing; it’s also about regaining strength in that leg and being able to put weight on it.”

“The timeline for Pogoy’s return hinges on how swiftly he can recuperate, but one thing is clear – we will not rush him back into action,” he noted. “He will play when he’s fully ready, not at 50% or 60%. We’re not taking any unnecessary risks.”

Instead, Reyes has urged his players to concentrate on their own performance, even if it means stepping onto the court without Pogoy.

“Our focus going into the Finals will be on ourselves. We won’t dwell on things beyond our control. For now, ensuring we have adequate rest is our top priority,” he stated. “While we may lack size, depth, and talent, that’s not something we can influence.”

Game 1 of the Finals is scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
