Dwight Ramos looking forward to playing with Thirdy Ravena in Gilas Pilipinas

Dwight Ramos has played with Thirdy Ravena only once, and that was during the Gilas Pilipinas vs Indonesia game in the first window of 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in Jakarta.

The Philippine national squad swamped the hosts by 30 points, 100-70, with Ravena leading the way. The 3-time UAAP Finals MVP tallied 23 points on top of 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in 23 minutes of action.

Ramos, on the other hand, came off the bench in his Gilas debut and contributed 5 points, 5 boards, 2 blocks, and 2 steals in 16 minutes.

The two Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles, one former and the other upcoming, are set for a national team reunion as both are considered strong favorites to make it the Final 12 of the team bound for Jakarta anew for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup which is scheduled from August 17 to 29.

“I’m super excited to play with Thirdy. I’ve only got to play with him that one time,” said Ramos during an episode of Spin Zoom In.

The game against Indonesia was actually their first and only official game together but the two have shared the court during Ateneo practices at the Moro Lorenzo gym.

Ravena has since taken his act to the Japan B.League and is now on his second season with San-En NeoPhoenix.

Ramos, meanwhile, has emerged as the national team’s top performer during the third and final window of the qualifiers. The 22-year old Fil-Am led the team to a 3-0 record highlighted by back-to-back wins over arch-nemesis Korea.

“I’m really excited to play with him with his experience overseas and playing in Japan,” said Ramos. “Just playing with him and his more experienced self, I think it’ll be really exciting to play with him.”
