Hollis-Jefferson siblings get job done as TNT drubs Taipei for first EASL win

TNT secured their first win in the 2023-24 East Asia Super League home-and-away tournament by defeating the Taipei Fubon Braves with a score of 80-69 on Wednesday night at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.

During the second quarter, the Hollis-Jefferson brothers, Rondae and Rahlir, played a crucial role in the Tropang Giga’s impressive performance, outscoring the visiting foreign team 31-21 and taking a six-point lead at halftime.

In the fourth period, TNT showcased their exceptional defensive skills by limiting Taipei to only 11 points, ultimately leading to their first victory after suffering four consecutive losses at the start of the regional tournament.

Rondae displayed an outstanding all-around performance for the Tropang Giga, contributing 35 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. His older brother, Rahlir, also made significant contributions with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

The victory enabled the Tropang Giga to maintain their chances of reaching the semifinals, as their record of 1-4 keeps them within reach of the Fubon Braves, who currently hold a 1-3 record.

In Group A, the Chiba Jets, a Japanese ball club, continue to dominate with an impressive 4-0 record, while the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters hold the second spot with a 2-1 record.

Leading Taipei in scoring and rebounding was Anthony Johnson, who contributed 19 points and 20 rebounds. Additionally, Fil-American guard Sedrick Barefield made a significant impact with 15 points, four rebounds, and five assists.
