Jordan Heading begs off from Gilas Pilipinas due to back problems

Gilas Pilipinas has lost another member of the pool just as the FIBA World Cup draws closer.
Head coach Chot Reyes revealed on Monday, July 17, that sharpshooter Jordan Heading will no longer join the team in preparation for the August 25 global basketball competition.
During the sixth and final window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Heading averaged 9.5 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds in 2 games for Gilas.
The 27-year old Fil-Australian, regarded as one of the best shooters in the Philippines, played for the Nagasaki Velca in the second division of the Japan B. League, and submitted averages of 13.4 points on 35% three-point shooting, 3.6 assists, and 2.8 rebounds.
According to Gilas team manager Butch Antonio, Heading’s back problems have prohibited him from joining the team.
Additionally, Heading missed the Nationals’ two-week training camp in Europe, during which they played 6 exhibition games in Estonia and Lithuania.
As he continues his recovery, Heading is currently in the country but will shortly fly to the United States.
Heading became the second player to beg off the 21-man World Cup pool. Carl Tamayo earlier withdrew due to a knee injury.
Gilas is still awaiting NBA player Jordan Clarkson and aspirant Kai Sotto in order to compete in a pocket tournament in China during the first week of August.
