Justin Brownlee in ‘so much joy’ after Gilas Pilipinas debut
Justin Brownlee made his much-anticipated Gilas Pilipinas debut last Friday at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue Bulacan and led the Philippine team to a 107-96 victory over Lebanon.
The resident import of Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA couldn’t hide his emotions after contributing a team-high 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting to go with 4 boards, 5 assists and 2 steals in 29 minutes of action.
“I got so much joy playing in the Philippines and playing in front of these fans,” said Brownlee. “Coming to the Philippine Arena, it could bring any player joy playing in front of these fans.”
“Just all-around great atmosphere. Got a lot of joy,” added the 3-time PBA Best Import awardee.
Brownlee started playing for the Gin Kings in 2016 and expressed his desire to play for the country’s national team in 2018. His naturalization was finally completed earlier this year and he vowed to return the favor to his Filipino fans who have showered him with love and admiration all these years.
“The Philippines showed so much love to me. I just want to do my best and do whatever I can to try to give some of it back,” he said.
“I’m just very blessed and lucky to be part of the team, part of the naturalization, and everything. It is just an honor to be able to put the Philippines in front of my chest and play for the flag.”
