Jordan Clarkson will be unable to reinforce Gilas Pilipinas in the 2023 Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament.
The former NBA Sixth Man of the Year has informed Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas that he will depart the United States on August 6 and arrive in Manila on August 8.
The China pocket tournament, in which Iran’s Team B and Senegal, a non-World Cup team, will also compete, will be held from August 2 to 7.
The development was first reported by Martie Bautista of News5.
“He won’t play in China. He might just go straight here in Manila,” said Gilas head coach Chot Reyes.
According to Gilas team manager Butch Antonio, 14 pool members will travel to China – June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Kiefer Ravena, Dwight Ramos, Roger Pogoy, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., CJ Perez, Thirdy Ravena, Chris Newsome, Jamie Malonzo, Calvin Oftana, Rhenz Abando, and AJ Edu.
Poy Erram will join the team in China, but the TNT big man won’t be able to play because he is still recovering from a recent surgery to remove bone spurs.
Incidentally, both Kai Sotto and Scottie Thompson won’t be seeing action as well due to injuries.
