South Sudan def Gilas Pilipinas, 87-68 [2023 FIBA World Cup | Aug. 31. 2023]
Whoever its opponent be, Gilas Pilipinas vows to compete and hopefully, win in the classification phase of the FIBA World Cup.
It’s campaign in the opening phase now over, the Nationals now focus their bid in the next round where they’ll possibly face the likes of South Sudan, China, or Puerto Rico.
The classification stage is set on Thursday, with Gilas set to see action in the 8 p.m. main game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The final pairings to determine the opponent of the Filipinos won’t be known until the end of the first round on Wednesday night.
Jordan Clarkson said the team remains ready to battle despite three deflating losses at the hands of Dominican Republic, Angola, and Italy that led to its early ouster.
“We haven’t really felt like we’ve been out of any games. We fight,” said the main man of the Philippine men’s team.
“We’re strong and we can put it together, and try to get these two (games). We know what it means and we know what it means for the country. We are leaving it all out on the floor.”
