Scottie Thompson rejoins Gilas Pilipinas practice

Things are finally starting to look good for Gilas Pilipinas.

According to Gilas assistant coach Tim Cone, reigning PBA MVP Scottie Thompson has returned to the squad’s practices for the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup.

“He’s back to practice. He practiced fully without restrictions last night,” confirmed the Brgy. Ginebra head coach.

Thompson missed the team’s trip to China due to a hand injury sustained during their training camp in Europe.

The team went 3-1 at the Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament, but it was not without concern, as Gilas used the tournament to re-evaluate their options at the point guard position, where Thompson’s injury had previously left a void.

During that time, the Ginebra superstar worked hard to recover from his shooting hand fracture and return to the squad’s practices as soon as possible.

Thompson’s return to the team strengthens Gilas’ campaign as they enter the final phase of their training camp with less than two weeks until the World Cup kicks off on August 25.

The team will have a set of tune-up games against Montenegro and Mexico next week before facing the Dominican Republic in the quadrennial games’ opener at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
