Gilas Pilipinas survived a huge scare from Iran and pulled off a 63-48 win at the close of the Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament in Guandong, China Monday night.

A crippling 12-0 run capped by a Kiefer Ravena three-pointer going home paved the way for the national team to put together a second straight and end its campaign with 3-1 record to top the pocket tournament along with Senegal.

The Iranians though, were in striking distance of the Filipinos, trailing by just 49-47 before the Filipinos went on a huge scoring tear to make it a 15-point winning margin at the end.

Gilas finished with a similar 3-1 record along with Senegal, which dealt the Filipinos their lone loss, 72-64, in the tournament.

For a while, the Filipinos appeared on the way to a breeze against the Iranians as they led, 24-9, in the first quarter.

But the Iranians clawed their way back and made it a 31-30 game at the break.

The Iranians even led at 35-40 midway in the third period.
