Ray Parks provided the spark and the duo of AJ Edu and Kiefer Ravena delivered the finishing touches as Gilas Pilipinas earned a 75-63 payback win against Senegal in the Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament in Guandong, China Sunday night.
The 6-foot-3 Parks found his range just in time in the final quarter when he instigated an 18-3 run to take a 65-56 lead with 4:37 left after trailing by six after the third period.
After Senegal threatened, Edu and Ravena nailed back-to-back three pointers to make it a 10-point spread with less than two minutes remaining to practically seal the win for Gilas.
The win avenged the Filipinos’ 72-64 loss to the West African country the other day.
They will play Iran anew on Monday at the end of the week-long, three-team mini pocket tournament.
CJ Perez carried the brunt for the national team early on and finished with 14 points, while the 6-foot-10 Edu had another solid showing with 13.
Gilas returns to the country on Tuesday and resumes the rest of its preparations for the FIBA World Cup. (
