Vic Manuel’s stint with Alaska is over after the Aces dealt the disgruntled power forward to Phoenix Super LPG Tuesday afternoon.
In return for the 33-year old Manuel, the Wilfred Uytengsu-owned franchise received Brian Heruela and the Fuel Masters’ first round pick in the 2022 rookie draft.
To complete the deal, the two teams also swapped picks in the upcoming draft which is scheduled on March 14.
Alaska received Phoenix’ 1st and 2nd round picks (No. 6 and No. 16) while the Fuel Masters got the Aces’ 1st and 2nd round picks in return (No. 7 and No. 19).
The PBA Commissioner’s Office has already given its stamp of approval on the trade.
Incidentally, the picks that Phoenix turned over to Alaska were the same ones that they received from Magnolia as part of the Calvin Abueva deal just one week ago.
Manuel was recently signed by the Aces to a one-year contract.
Alaska head coach Jeff Cariaso considers getting Heruela an unexpected bonus.
“Brian was an add on requested by the PBA to formalize the trade. Because he wasn’t part of the original offer, he may end up being a blessing in disguise for us. Great kid with tremendous worth ethic,” wrote Cariaso on his Twitter account.
Phoenix team manager Paolo Bugia, meanwhile, bared that the trade allowed them to keep in step with the build-up of the league’s top teams.
“We just want to be able to compete with the big teams. This trade really aligns with management’s goal to put up a contending team each conference. Vic is a big pick-up for us. With his threat in the post, it should open up our three’s for our shooters.”
