Calvin Abueva hopes to play with Marc Pingris before he retires

Magnolia veteran Marc Pingris has offered some words of wisdom for new Magnolia teammate Calvin Abueva.

The 33-year old Abueva, who is coming off a remarkable performance in the 2020 Philippine Cup inside the PBA bubble in Clark, Pampanga despite an 18-month layoff due to suspension, arrived two weeks ago via trade from the Phoenix Super LPG along with the Fuel Masters’ 10th overall pick in the upcoming rookie draft for guard Chris Banchero and the Hotshots’ first and second round picks in the same draft.

Although the two energetic forwards have yet to see each other during the team’s group workouts, Abueva bared that he’s been in constant communication with his fellow Gilas Pilipinas player.

“Sabi niya ayusin mo na yan. It’s a big opportunity na nandiyan ka. Huwag mo nang pakawalan,” recalled ‘The Beast’ during his guesting in the Saturday program The Chasedown.

While the two have had their share of bruising battles on the hardcourt, they developed a special bond during their stint with the national team.

Unfortunately, their partnership on Magnolia’s frontcourt remains to be seen as the Pozorrubio, Pangasinan native is still undecided on whether to play for one more season or call it a day.

“Wala pa siyang sinasabi, eh. Pero sana nga magkasama kami rito (Magnolia) kahit one season lang bago siya mag-retire. Yun ang wish ko,” said Abueva.

“Kasi all of us, heads-up kami sa kanya dahil siyempre beterano. Yung experience niya nung naglalaro pa siya, iba yun kaysa sa experience namin ngayon,” added Abueva. “At mas maganda kung ma share niya yung experience na yun para naman kami umangat pa kung ano ang dapat naming gawin,” added the Best Player of the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup.
