Kai Sotto moves over to Yokohama in Japan B.League

On Thursday, December 28, 2023, Yokohama made an official announcement on their website regarding the team’s acquisition of Filipino basketball player Kai Sotto.

Sotto, who previously played for the Hiroshima Dragonflies, has now moved over to the Bee Corsairs in Japan’s B. League.

“We would like to inform you that it has been decided that Kai Sotto from the Hiroshima Dragonflies will join the Yokohama Bee Corsairs on a loan basis. The transfer period will run from December 26th until the end of the 2023-24 season,” wrote the team on its website.

Sotto’s inability to participate in Hiroshima’s matches was attributed to a persistent back injury. As he progresses in his rehabilitation, the towering 7-foot-3 center conveyed his appreciation to Yokohama for giving him an opportunity.

The exceptional player from Gilas Pilipinas expressed his enthusiasm for personal growth and achieving further victories alongside the Bee Corsairs. Presently, the team holds a win-loss record of 10-14, placing them sixth in the Central Division of the B.League.

“I wanna thank the team Yokohama B-CORSAIRS and the organization for trusting and signing me to play for the team, despite coming off an injury. I’m very blessed to be given this opportunity and I will make the most out of it. I ‘m very excited to play for the city of yokohama. I can’t wait to win more games and get better as a player. Go B-COR!” said Sotto.

Ken Takeda, the team manager of the Bee Corsairs, expresses his enthusiasm for Sotto’s ability to make a significant impact on both offense and defense for the team.

“Kai Sotto, who has joined the team on loan from Hiroshima, is a very promising young player with a size of 220cm (7-foot-3) and a soft shooting touch. We have high expectations for him as a new option on offense as well as inside defense and rebounding. I believe that with the addition of Sotto, the team will gain even more energy and accelerate into the mid-game and second half games,” said Takeda.
