Gilas cadet Kemark Cariño signs with Japan B.League team Aomori Wat’s
Another up and coming Pinoy baller is set to take his act to Japan.
The Aomori Wat’s, a team playing in the second division of the B.League, announced the signing of Gilas Pilipinas cadet Kemark Cariño as its Asian import for the 2021-2022 season.
The 23-year old Cariño will be the team’s first signee under league’s Asian Player Quota program.
“Grateful for this opportunity to play for this team @aomoriwats_official ,” wrote the former San Beda standout on his Instagram account.
“I’d like to thank the San Beda Family for all the great years. Coach Boyet, Boss Jude and all my teammates. This is something I never knew I could reach,” he added.
Cariño made his national team debut during the second window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifers. He tallied a total of 3 points, 3 rebounds and an assist as Gilas completed a 2-game sweep of Thailand.
The 6-foot-9 center will now forego his remaining eligibility with the Red Lions.
He joins fellow Pinoys Thirdy Ravena (San-En NeoPhoenix), and the Gomez de Liaño brothers Javi (Ibaraki Robots) and Juan (Earthfriends Tokyo Z) in the fledging league.
NLEX guard Kiefer Ravena also inked a deal with the Shiga Lakestars but the PBA prevented him from leaving the country due to an existing contract with the Road Warriors.
