MVP, RSA meet in bid to form ‘most competitive Gilas team’ for World Cup

The PBA’s MVP and SMC groups have forged an alliance in order to form the best Gilas Pilipinas team possible for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
San Miguel Corporation president Ramon S. Ang on Monday met with First Pacific Company Limited CEO and managing director Manny V. Pangilinan to discuss the country’s hosting and campaign in the world basketball championship scheduled from August 25 to September 10 next year. Aside from the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia will serve as co-hosts for the event.
Also present during the closed-door meeting which was held at the SMC headquarters in Ortigas, Pasig City were Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and PLDT president Al S. Panlilio, PBA chairman Ricky Vargas, and SMC sports director and Brgy. Ginebra team governor Alfrancis Chua.

Panlilio disclosed that the group discussed topics ranging from business to sports but added that the upcoming campaign of the country’s national basketball team in the World Cup was the first and foremost.
“Focused on how we can form the most competitive national team for the World Cup,” wrote Panlilio in a text message to Spin.ph.
This is indeed a welcome development after the SEA Games debacle as most of the country’s top players are affiliated with teams from either SMC or MVP group in the PBA.
