TNT got an added boost from sister team NLEX after the flagship team on the MVP group got possession of two precious picks in a loaded rookie draft as a result of a recent three-team trade which also involved Blackwater.
The Road Warriors initially dealt the precious 4th pick to the Bossing in exchange for Roi Sumang, Don Trollano, Morris Shaw and the Bossing’s 2022 second round draft pick. Blackwater then sent the pick to TNT and received Simon Enciso, David Semerad and the Tropang Giga’s 2023 first round draft pick and 2024 second round pick.
Aside from the 4th pick in the regular round of the upcoming draft which is scheduled on Sunday, March 14, the Tropang Giga also acquired pick No. 4 in the special Gilas draft which consists of William Navarro, JD Tungcab, Jordan Heading, and Tzaddy Rangel.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial confirmed the development on Friday.
The special draft follows the order of the regular draft in which rankings and previous transactions take effect. Such is the case of NLEX whose 3rd overall pick in the regular and special draft this year came from Blackwater in the Poy Erram trade.
Another case was in 2019 when Rain or Shine took possession of the 5th pick in the Gilas draft. The pick was originally owned by the Phoenix Super LPG and was then passed on to Alaska as part of the Calvin Abueva trade.
Isaac Go (Columbian), Rey Suerte (Blackwater), Matt Nieto (NLEX), Allyn Bulanadi (Alaska), and Mike Nieto (Rain or Shine) were the 2019 Gilas draftees.
