Joseph Eriobu played the role of closer as fourth-ranked Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 beat No. 23 Jordan, 21-19, for a winning start in the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup Qualifying Draw Thursday morning in Singapore.
Eriobu drained the marginal two-pointer as the PBA 3×3-backed Nationals fended off the tough Jordanians and gained the momentum heading to their next game in Group C against Indonesia later at night.
The Philippine crew, represented by PBA 3×3 Third Conference champions Almond Vosotros, Lervin Flores and Samboy de Leon of TnT and reinforcement Eriobu of runner-up Purefoods, aims to sweep its two-game assignments and top Group C to make it to the 12-team main draw.
Vosotros rifled in 11 spiked by five deuces against Jordan, leading Gilas to an 18-14 cushion.
But Ahmad Hassooneh and Caden Alnajdawi anchored a Jordanian fightback that put them at level at 18-18.
Philippines 21 – Vosotros 11, Eriobu 6, De Leon 2, Flores 2.
Jordan 19 – Alnajdawi 10, Hassooneh 7, Obeid 2, Abuaboud 0.
