Almond Vosotros fired the kill shot as Gilas Pilipinas men’s 3×3 stunned top seed Mongolia, 21-20, to reach the semifinals of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup Sunday afternoon in Singapore.
Vosotros, the PBA 3×3 scoring champion, knocked down the Philippines’ last five points, including the clinching two-ball, to complete the dramatic fightback against their highly-touted rivals.
Vosotros and his gutsy teammates Lervin Flores, Samboy de Leon and Joseph Eriobu set themselves up for a Final Four duel with New Zealand, which toppled second seed Japan in their side of the quarters, 16-14.
The semis is set at 6:15 pm. Sunday.
It was a performance to remember for Gilas 3×3, which didn’t waver despite trailing at 5-9 and 13-11 in the initial skirmishes.
The Pinoy dribblers got on the driver’s seat, 18-15, on De Leon’s free throw and Vosotros’ first two-pointer of the game.
